Since the beginning of 20th century there is an incresing attraction towards the digital world among people. The rich have access to the digital world, the poor and ordinary have been excluded. To put up an end to that Aakash is born.

Mission:
Aakash revolutionised the tech world being the cheapest tablet in the world. It was launched by then HRD minister Minister Kapil Silbal on OCt 5th 2011.The Indian Government handled the project to the UK based company called Datawind. This company is experienced in manufacturing many electronic devices from past 22 years. It imports all components from various countries like South Korea, USA and other countries and assemble it at Hyderabad. But, its not only Datawind, it is also an Indian company 'QUAD electronic solutions' who is manufacturing the Aakash Tab. QUAD electronic solutions is Hyderabad's based company which has 2 acre campus in Medchal Datawind collaborates with QUAD electronic Solutions and manufactures the cheapest Tablet.
This is why we proudly call it as "Made In India Product".

Aakash Tab has 800 components which includes a whole variety of chips, touch panel, plastics, cabling , Screen and alot more. The 7 inch screen comes from south korea, micro processor come from us and other components from all over the world, including India and also china. Well, in detail 39-40 % of the components come from south korea, around 24% from China , 16% components are made in India, 16 % components from US and rest from other countries. Then all these components are bought into the factory and they test, build and assemble in the factory. Building, testing and assembling are all done at QUAD Electronic Solution at Hyderabad.

Based on the complaints on Aakash 1, Government and the Company has decided to provide a Tab with better performance and more specifications at the same price and now the upgraded version of Aakash Tab is called Ubislate 7+.

Government Aim Recently, Government said they need more 2 crore Aakash Tab in comming years and they are releasing new tenders for more companies to come in and manufacture the upgraded version of Aakash Tab along with Datawind.

How to book?
To book an Aakash tablet, you need around Rs. 2999 only, but most importantly lots of patience. Booking of the Aakash tablet are only done online through DataWind’s website dedicated to this low cost tablet computer, http://aakashtablet.com/. As it is a tablet computer launched with a specific purposes, it is not available at retail stores.

The vision and ideology behind this low cost tablet computer is two folds; firstly to enable the students of various Indian state universities to get the best in technology and facilitate many e-learning modules and thus keeping the Indian education system abreast with the education patterns abroad. Secondly, it is for the common man; for people who cannot afford the expensive iPads or Android tablets or smart phones; to have a piece of modern day touch screen technology, which is within their reach and very easy on the pockets.

If you are a student and need to book your Aakash tablet,  it is best to place the orders through your educational institutes or centers specified by the University of your State. This is because the Government is providing heavy subsidies on the Aakash tablets for students but this is not through DataWind, the company making the tablets. Hence the booking through their website would not entitle  any such subsidies for the students. For the students, the Government has its own distribution network and hence the students should approach their colleges to book their Aakash tablets.
After the orders are placed and the tablets available for delivery, the company will contact the person through either email or telephone. This delivery schedule is based on first come first serve basis i.e. the tablets would be delivered in the order of the orders placed. The company would also give preference to those tablet deliveries, of which the payment is already made in advance.
Once you are done with the placing of your order, you would have to wait patiently to get your Aakash tablet. This is because the production capacity for manufacturing these tablets is still not enough to meet the large scale demand for the Aakash tablets.

In the news released today in the newspaper The Hindu the Union HRD Minister,Mr.Pallam Raju  has said that "The project is a dream project of Indian Government and the delivery is getting slow because of huge demand. However the government is taking all neccessary issues to resolve the problems regarding the production and the tablet. The latest versions were also released".
