Google AI Glasses & Android XR – Latest Announcements

Google had announced Android XR in partnership with Samsung earlier in 2024 to work on Extended reality XR technology. In the latest Android Show held in December 2025, Google has announced that its first AI Glasses will be launched in early 2026.

Google had earlier launched an experimental project on Google Glass and it was discontinued in 2015 as a failure release due to multiple factors including privacy concerns.

The recent announcement from Google states that Google’s other AI technologies like Gemini and XR technology come together to build AI glasses.

Android XR

Features of Google's AI Glasses

AI glasses will come with,

  • i) camera which could take pictures,
  • ii) speakers and microphones which could help you chat with Google Gemini’s voice AI assistant

This could be a screenless digital experience for the user.

Proposed In-Lens Display Glasses

There is also another type of glasses proposed which could have an in-lens display, which could allow users to receive the information and help to navigate for directions and instant translate.

Developer Contribution to Android XR

As these high end cross projects of hardware and multiple softwares come into production, Google has extended an invite for developer contribution to Android XR SDK and will be releasing Developer Preview 3 of the Android XR SDK.

Partnerships for Aesthetic Design

Google also has collaborated with Gentle Monster, Warby Parker for manufacturing of aesthetics glasses.

AI Wearables from Other Companies

Other AI wearables built by Meta, Whoop,Garmin, Oura are seeing latest advancements which could be assisting majorly in the fitness and healthcare sectors.
