The website we have designed has to be connected to World Wide Web in order to make it available for all internet users and a hosting company does that. Hosting company has powerful servers and when we send our files to them they upload it on the server. Server is a powerful computer that stores the files of many users. Hosting company will provide two things. One is bandwidth and the other is disk space for the files. There are many ways to website hosting can be carried out. It is important to understand the methods and know our needs before opting.

Internet Service Provider is one of the methods of web hosting. ISPs include a small amount of free web space to create web pages which are meant to have low amount of traffic.

Free Web hosting can be better option when the ISP doesn’t offer web space. It is supported by advertising and not recommended for serious businesses.






Standard Paid hosting is another option for which we need to pay an amount for a particular duration mostly for a month. The prices may be fixed depending on the services we need. The services may include CGI access, database support, extra space, extra bandwidth and more. Standard paid hosting is ideal for web based businesses.

 Domain hosting is one of the types of hosting used widely. It is for the domain we pay and have our website hosted anywhere. Domain name is the address for the website.

Colocation puts the web server in the large machine room. We own the hardware in this case. Colocation is perfect for companies who want something unusual in their Web software configuration or need the extra security that total control provides. Colocation comes in two versions: Managed versions and unmanaged versions.  With managed colocation, you pay for the server space and a team from your hosting company to manage your server for you. This is great for companies that want the control of colocation but don't have an IT department to manage the server. Unmanaged is where you handle all the administration and management of the server yourself, including software updates, the Web server, and the site itself.

E-commerce web hosting is one type which adds secure socket layer(SSL) to the website. It helps to add secure server when any business transactions are carried out with the clients.
